Training for Flexibility - Our guest this week is Thomas Kurz, author of Stretching Scientifically. We discuss training methods that increase your power and flexibility while also reducing your risk of self-inflicted injury during a criminal assault. When we workout and practice, it is always with a good warm-up and stretching. However, when you are in a spontaneous confrontation, you do not get a warm-up. This week we look at some of the physiology behind strength training and how it applies to true self-defense.

In this article you will learn the correct body alignment for the high side kick.

Advanced Strength Exercises for Lower Back—Your Best Insurance against Back Pain
(article)...In the previous issue you have learned about the easiest exercises for the abdomen and lower back. Those exercises, especially the lower back exercises, are not enough to build as much strength as it takes to counterbalance the kicking muscles attached at the front of your spine and to stabilize your lower back. They only prepare you for the more intensive and more functional strength exercises for the lower back-such as the good morning and the deadlift.
